MASS ACCESS

A REGISTRY OF ACCESSIBLE HOUSING IN MASSACHUSETTS

WHO WE ARE

Mass access is a free program that matches people with disabilities with vacant, accessible housing.

Mass Access, also known as The Accessible Housing Registry, catalogs every accessible or adaptable unit in the state and tracks its availability. Based at Citizens' Housing and Planning Association, Mass Access links people with disabilities with owners and managers of accessible housing.

What We Do

Using the latest computer technology, Mass Access distributes current vacancy information to disability agencies across the state on a daily basis. Mass Access catalogs the following information:

Location of housing by city or town

Rent level

Number of bedrooms

Neighborhood features

The type of housing

Particular adaptable or accessible features

Vacancy status

Commonly Asked Questions

Why was The accessible Housing Registry created?

Too often managers and providers of adaptable/accessible housing find that their units sit vacant. At the time, individuals with disabilities experience great difficulty and frustration in locating suitable housing. The registry corrects this problem by matching prospective occupants with available rental housing units. The result is that people with disabilities now have a mechanism to find housing to meet their specific needs.

Who can use Mass Access?

Any person who has a disability, family member, or advocate can obtain housing information through Mass Access, regardless of age, income, or type of disability.

What kind of housing will I find out about?

The Mass Access registry includes information about state and federally assisted housing, public housing, and private market-rate housing. The Mass Access database tracks a wide range of accessible and adaptable features.

Can I use Mass Access if I do not require accessible housing?

Yes. Mass Access can assist people with physical, sensory, psychiatric, and other disabilities to identify housing opportunities.

What if I need a subsidized apartment?

Mass Access includes information about subsidized housing across the state as well as private, market-rate apartments.

What if I need assistance applying for housing?

Local Independent Living Centers(ILCs) can provide you with housing information. They can also provide you with information and assistance regarding the application process, tenant rights, civil rights, home modifications and technical support.
